I am 76 years old and have finally cut the cable cord. This old dog is finally learning a new trick. My main TVs are smart but I have an older one in a bedroom that needed a device to stream. The hardest part of installation of this Firestick was getting the batteries into the remote–the plastic cover is so slippery that I couldn’t slide it open. I had to put on rubber gloves to install the batteries. Wish the plastic remote cover had some texture to make it easier.
A couple of reviews stated that Apple TV streaming won’t work with this Fire Stick but my AppleTV service is working perfectly.
The power cord that attaches to the FIre Stick has a USB on one end that inserts into an AC adapter. The instructions don’t mention that you can choose not to use the AC adapter and instead plug the USB into the USB port on your TV. But that is what I did and it seems to be working fine.

The Amazon Firestick appeared to be pre-owned.
The firestick box was missing an adapter. The batteries were already in the remote. There were no instructions to set it up.
I installed it using an adapter I had at home.
I paid for a new product. I should have been advised the firestick was used so that I could decide if I still wanted to purchase it.
However, the firestick is working properly. t.

This is now my 3rd Fire Stick. I love the ease of set up and how I can also control it with my phone or tablet. HOWEVER, my remote came with pre-installed dedicated buttons to access certain streaming channels to which I have/pay for 3 (Prime Video, NETFLIX and peacock) out of the 4, so one of the buttons (DIRECT TV) is just useless. I would have preferred to have a DISNEY+ button instead, had a choice or to have the capability to program the unusable button to do that, but no such luck. Also, it says that with my new Fire Stick, I get MGM+ free for 6 months, however it brings me to a screen to sign up for service, so I don’t know if I go into it and sign up for a plan, then maybe I’ll get the 6 months free??? My rating reflects these issues. Would bump up to 5 stars if this could somehow be rectified, but somehow doubt it. =(
Also a light on the remote would be cool. (Just a thought for improvement)
UPDATE: Was able to activate MGM+, it’s free for 6months. Just kind of wished it had instructions how to download it, instead of me figuring it out on my own.

I’ve been using Apple TVs for years. I don’t watch much TV anymore. I find it difficult to find shows and movies I’m interested in. The Apple TV search function is seriously lacking. One of my Apple TVs failed, so I picked this up during a Prime Day sale. It works great, it’s fast, much smaller than Apple TV making mounting behind the TV easy. The search feature blew me away. I enjoy older movies, and asked for Alfred Hitchcock movies. The list of available movies was huge compared to Apple TV, and they were organized better so that it was easy to find movies that were free to watch. As a long time “Apple fan boy”, I might be switching to these.

I will say that I’m a Google guy and functionally I want nothing to do with Alexa or really anything Amazon Fire besides just Prime getting my packages here. THAT SAID, I have multiple not Walmart brands high end tv’s. While I guess the picture is nice (depending on the video quality), they are absolutely horrible when you cut cable to multiple streaming services. So SO much lag all the time! I bought one of these 4k firestick to try and bypass that and they are lightning fast menus with a great picture. Even better, you can plug and play the firestick into anything and it’s ready to go without having to re-log into services. I wish I bought more on sale for all my tv’s. I will never waste money on a TV again hoping for something more than a $40 firestick already handles perfectly.

I bought a firestick almost last year and I am just writing a review about it as I still use it to this day, and it works like a charm. The quality of streaming is amazing, it provides beautiful 4K quality, in addition to Dolby Vision and ATMOS. The price is just right for what it provides, it is on sale right now because the new version was just recently released making this version outdated but it is still a great device for what it was priced originally. One of their best features, in my opinion, is how portable it is. The Firestick is small and travel size so if you were on the go, you could take it with you and wherever you have a TV near you, you could plug it in there if needed. However, as great as it is, it still has its flaws and limitations. With the Firestick being so portable and small in size, it comes with its limitations on hardware. For example, the storage is built in with 8GB but comes with only 5GB for the user as the other 3GB is being used already. The remote is also a bit small so it’s easy to lose but that may be nitpicking as it is meant to be small for its portability. I like the remote they provide as it has volume-changing capability, power button, and the traditional pause/play and fast forwards feature. It also comes with some open app features like Disney+, Hulu, or ESPN and you can open the app just by pressing the button.

I love all the selections with Firestick and if I can’t find what I’m looking for, I use the Alexa feature. I also use a Tablo to record shows to watch later. I find if there is any glitch, I just have to disconnect the Firestick and then reconnect it to solve the problem and that doesn’t happen often. I really like that I can choose from so many different news programs to get a really balanced view of the current issues.
