Works very well coming from a first gen fire stick at only 1080p the 4k is definitely noticeable and is noticeably more snappier . No issues while I’m in apps like YouTube, hulu ,Amazon prime etc . Definitely worth what I paid considering it was 25 bucks with a coupon.

First off, let me say I have several fire sticks, and I love them, I’ve never had this problem before. The picture is really dark, I’ve adjusted the tv and fire stick…looked online and tried multiple variations of adjustments from others who have had same problem, and nothing is working. I was really hoping this 4K one was going to knock my socks off and its a dud….sad.

Update: Was able to adjust settings between tv and fire stick to a reasonably acceptable level, but frustrated I had to do anything, I never had to adjust anything on other Fire sticks, so can only give 4 stars.

So, I just got the NEW 4K Firestick today. I had the older yet same named 4K Firestick. Upgraded because this NEW one is supposed to be faster and better.
First impressions. Is it faster? Well that is subjective in my experience. 30%? That would be noticeable, but I really couldn’t see that. There are no real objective ways to test.

So out of the box, how did the installation go. Well, plugged it in and it immediately wanted to update which understandable based on reviews that said it need them. Well that was the first update. It rebooted itself only to launch into more updates. About 10 minutes worth. Then finally it pops a screen that says it recognizes me and if I wanted to restore settings from a backup. Why of course. I read a review that said it restored his settings to his previous Firestick. Well I guess my backup didn’t remember mine. The Home Screen was filled with all the latest bloatware and free trials imaginable. It didn’t remember any of my apps or any logins and passwords. After 30 minutes of cleaning that up I decided to test network speeds. I have a new Deco X60 mesh system that supports WiFi 6. It wasn’t any better than the OLD Firestick. Sadly, the Deco isn’t as sophisticated as most true routers so it doesn’t tell you detailed information about your network. How do I know? Spent an hour with TPlink. Another story.

I have my 4K TV set up with an AVR system and the only thing the NEW stick recognized was the TV. Didn’t remember the receiver. Had to set that up. Not a big deal since it only controls power on/off and volume control.
One last thing is the preprogrammed buttons. I appreciate Prime Video and Netflix but DIRECTV and Peacock. Seriously who uses those? At least let me reprogram them to something more useful.

I did get an email from Amazon explaining what setup would entail. It wasn’t as detailed as you would expect for setting up an existing account. But it did say to have all your app info handy. It didn’t explain the lengthy update instructions either. But it was a forewarning. I was inspired by the one reviewers comments. Just didn’t happen for me.

So do I keep it? Yes because it is their latest product and will likely get the most attention for upgrades and enhancements. And it wasn’t worse or downgraded from the OLD stick. Don’t want to lag too far in technology. I thought about the Max but don’t have any 6e capabilities. The ambient feature looked cool.

Normally I would buy a Roku stick to stream on my TV’s but I saw that the fire stick was 40% off so I bought it to try it out. Honestly was one of the easiest setups I’ve ever done on a device like this! Other devices I’ve tried out like Roku take a little longer or quite a few more steps but this was so simple and the quality is amazing! Super happy with my purchase!

Had an old Fire Stick from 4 years ago that suddenly didn’t connect. Got a “no signal” message on the television screen – tried everything to fix it but it was just dead. (Note that the Fire Stick remote was working – the power button could turn off the television. Just couldn’t access the Fire Stick content). However now that I have this new Fire Stick, I realize the other one hadn’t been working properly for awhile. No more repeated screen freezing when viewing Hulu and Netflix! Yay! Also it may be my imagination but the picture looks brighter. And I got a 50% promo on the new one 🙂 Also note – I saw someone mention the cord they received was short. Mine was the normal length same as the old Fire Stick – just under 5 feet.

I purchased the all-new 4k stick when an offer showed up on my TV screen unexpectedly. I already had the previous gen 4k stick. I already have all the apps I need or want on our 2 LG OLEDs but I bought the last gen stick only for 2 apps that LG TV OS doesn’t support: Amazon Photos and ESPN+. I have tens of thousands of photos I’ve taken as an enthusiast photographer stored in my Amazon Photos cloud account and my favorite way to view them is on our OLED TVs using the Fire stick. The last gen 4k stick works perfectly for Photos. Unfortunately, the Photos app on the all-new 4K stick doesn’t work and hangs up while loading. I’m hoping a software update from Amazon fixes this soon or it will be returned as a lemon item.

Update: The new stick NOW works with Amazon Photos. It still wasn’t working even after I updated the stick’s OS software to latest version 10/11/23. Started working 10/12/23. It looks like they fixed the server side software which is something they can do since Amazon Photos is an AWS cloud service. It’s inexcusable that Amazon’s own app in their own hardware device running an Amazon cloud service didn’t work upon release. Looks like testing was inadequate and the release was rushed. A lesson to software engineering and product management. That’s why I raised the rating from one star to 4 stars but not 5 stars.

I was impressed though that Amazon Customer Service took the initiative to call me to help try to resolve the problem after being alerted by the one star rating I first gave. Now that server side issue has been resolved, the new stick itself is an improvement over the old stick because it is indeed noticeably snappier probably due to a new faster processor and a bigger and maybe faster cache memory. Image quality looks the same which is what I expected but I expect the new stick’s advantage to become clearer when I upgrade our home mesh system to Wifi 6 from Wifi 5 in the future.

I dumped Spectrum cable and switched to YouTube TV, but 2 of my TVs have built-in Chromecast but are not smart TVs. So, I opted for the Fire TV Stick instead of Roku. Everything worked great out of the box, except for the AV sync. It started out synchronized, but after a few minutes into each show, it would get out of sync. I tried the AV Sync Tuning setting, but it wouldn’t stay synchronized. I ended up changing the Surround Sound setting from “Best Available” to PCM. Now it works flawlessly. I was able to pair it with my Toshiba TV and Vizio soundbar so that I only have to fiddle with a single remote.

I can’t believe I put off upgrading my FireTV stick so long. My years old version 1 FireTV stick has been having problems for a while. Slow response, some apps didn’t load, and it was out of storage. Because I have a Harmony remote and AV Receiver I kept putting off upgrading to new one, thinking it would be a huge effort. I couldn’t have been more mistaken. The new version has presets for hundreds of TV and AV receiver brands and even remembered my wifi password. The best part? It asked me if I was replacing an old device and when I told it which one, it automatically reloaded all my apps and settings! I didn’t have to look up passwords or even reauthenticate to all my streaming apps. Easiest upgrade ever.

My previous Fire stick died suddenly after almost 4 years. The home screen only loaded half way, so I tried multiple resets, but that was it. It never worked again.

I hoped this 4K fire stick would work with my old router and 1080p 240hz TV. And it does! You don’t need a 4K TV or new router to use this. This Fire stick gives a much MUCH better video quality than the old one did – even though the old one supported 1080p too. And the response rate is quicker.

No problems during setup. Be prepared – multiple updates will happen before you can do anything. You will get the option to transfer most of your old fire stick settings to your new one, which is nice. The previews will be jarring and noisy again, but you can shut that off in the settings.

Note that the LED is hidden beneath the plastic covering. Its there, but its invisible until you press the Alexa button.

If I could change one thing – I’d make the cord longer. My TV’s power cord is not near the HDMI ports, so its a problem to get the cords to reach the same power strip, even though that strip is mounted on the TV stand. I had to use the HDMI extender just as I did with the old fire stick. The cord needs to be 6ft.

This is the only device our family uses for Watching movies and shows. It is compatible with our TV and internet. The quality of sound and image depend on your TV if course, but we are very happy with the device. The quality is always great.
